Velvet Strings

Velvet strings tie me to you
Wrapping themselves deftly
           around my heart
Coalescing this moment
With your perfect smile
Entangled within a blossoming
                      love
Unfolding like the mist in the dawn
Red bleeding into brilliant blue
Blue melting into fiery orange
Is my forgotten joy melting into your
           perfect
                                            eyes
Tying up my insides with your velvet strings
Fettered, it seems, my once untenable heart,
By your     lambent     smiles

Star Ocean

Sailing silently through this star ocean
Crashing through the blissful sea of black
Frothy white specs piercing the eternal darkness
Celestial bodies navigating the uncharted course
When heavens and stars fail to find each other
I wonder how it is that you came to be
In my arms on a cool September night
As we sailed on through this star ocean

A Simple Hello

Your face burned into my memory
Lost, hurt and hopeless
You walked into my life
Yet life kept me from saying
     a simple hello

I drove off giving you no more thought
I saw you walking, head towards the ground
Mutually unaware and unconcerned
You walked past as I drove away

I saw you the next day
In a small story
in the back of the paper

You walked into my life for a moment
But I had no moments for you
You walked out of my life forever

All of my moments I would trade
     to say a simple hello

Time Won’t Heal All Wounds

Feeling should fade with the passing of time
As the sunlight wanes into the night
The passing years should untangle this mess
That ties up all of my insides
The hurt should get less with each day that passes
Yet it seems to linger as fresh as that day
My own foolishness leaves a bitter taste
Mixing with the sense of loss
Uncertain as to how to begin
To let this all bleed out
The morning sun should have the promise of a new day
But it brings only memories of you
To let this fool heart of mine ache
As I wonder how I could have been so foolish

I had a conversation with one of my very good friends. It’s amazing how the years don’t seem to ease the pain of some things. The passing of time is supposed to heal all wounds, but instead it only seems to leave scars. This poem speaks out of that hurt that should pass with time, but never seems to go.

My Bride, My Heart

My bride, my heart
Joy of my tomorrow
Daughter of the moon
Oh child of the sun
Radiance is your raiment
Sunshine is your hair
Stars are your brilliant eyes
That draw me deep into your soul
Drowning in your beauty
As I pledge my heart to you
Never release me from this ring of gold
That binds me close to you
With each day that passes

My bride, my heart
Joy of my tomorrow
I pledge my heart to you

Watching my good friend Alex (10-Speed) get married, I couldn’t help but feel his joy for Natalie. I could almost see their hearts entwining. So I wrote this poem for them, for their joy, for their hopes, and for their future.
